Super Jazz Man
Restaurant waiter Stevie Jack looks like an average guy, but when he puts on his cape he becomes musical superhero Jazz Man. He revolutionizes the local airwaves, armed with his saxophone and a plethora of catch phrases - Jazz Away! One day, a group of high-rolling rappers kidnaps his kitten Bebop. Jazz Man has to hunt down his pet and needs to discover why the rappers are targeting him. He visits locations in the city to collect clues: the record store, the park, a gym, a volcano, and even a library, a place he tended to avoid like Bee Gees records.
Super Jazz Man is the first commercial adventure game by Herculean Effort Productions. Done entirely in pastel colours, the game has a distinct retro feel, similar to the LucasArts adventures. At the bottom of the screen, you can select the actions (walk, examine, pick up, use, talk) on the left, there is an inventory on the right, and a command line just above it. Rooms are roofless, as Jazz Man cannot only walk around, but fly to different locations as well. Puzzles are based on conversations and item combinations, with a fair amount of pixel hunting. Sometimes problems can be approached in different ways, and the final part of the game offers different endings.
There is no voice acting, but the game features a large amount of jazz-inspired background music, and Jazz Man has a solo up his sleeve as well.
