Loricum

In 2010 MED Theatre launched a video game called Loricum. The story-led game was based on MED Theatre’s 2006 community play, Loricum, which explored the flooding of a Dartmoor valley to make a reservoir. The game had multiple endings dependent on character choices and task completion, with a point and click format to control multiple characters and objects.

This project ran between March and July 2010 and involved 18 young people who created the game from start to finish. The lead mentor on the project was Jamie Holding, supported by Rob Beringer (Photoshop and video), Kat Thomas (graphics) and Tanya Morel (animation). The young people received training in all aspects of the process and took lead roles in creating the interactive CD/DVD video game, devising and scripting the game, preparing artwork, making models and stop-motion animations, and filming and editing an introduction, as well as carrying out the all-important coding!
