Dare to Dream Part One: In a Darkened Room is a point and click graphic adventure game viewed in the first-person. Tyler E. Norris, the main character who is a ten year old boy, is caught in his dreams which he keeps repeatedly having. While sometimes dreams can be nice to have, they can also turn into nightmares.

Wandering the streets of his dream world, he can talk to the various denizens he runs into and can pick up items and place them in his inventory. Items like dirty underwear or sewage will be put to use in order to solve puzzles. The gameplay area is split into two sections, with the top of the screen showing the current location Tyler is in which can be clicked on to interact with, while the bottom of the screen shows a status bar that reads a description of the location or what is happening at that moment.
